Travel | San Gregorio Beach Along CA - Highway 1

"Let curiosity be your compass."

We were on our way to dinner in Half Moon Bay when we made the wrong turn and found ourselves staring at this beauty. We just followed Highway 1 which runs along California's Pacific coastline. The drive itself along this scenic road was so breathtakingly spectacular. It wraps around idyllic coast towns and beaches. It is like driving high up in the clouds with beautiful scenery on every twist and turn.

San Gregorio State Beach was just one of those unexpected beauties. There are many beaches along Highway 1. We parked for a bathroom break and to get our bearing. I saw picnic benches and people just being mesmerized by the vastness in front of us.

San Gregorio State Beach is described as "The area includes a protected, driftwood-strewn estuary at the back of a wide, sandy beach - with grassy bluffs along the coast. The estuary is home to many birds and small animals. California Historical Landmark 26 commemorates the passage of Spanish Explorer Captain Gaspar de Portolá through this area in October 1769."

It was a beautiful cold afternoon. I made a mental note for Mr Sweetie and I to go back, pack a picnic basket and enjoy a beautiful warmer day here someday.

*This beach is not in Half Moon Bay but close enough.
