Happy Birthdays and Happy New Year

Monday, January 8, 2018

Two birthdays and a Happy New Year. It was my dad's 83rd birthday. He and  Mr Sweetie were born on the same day although many decades apart. We celebrated them on New Year's Day with the whole family. I was proud that Mr Sweetie and I hosted these very important occasions at our second house, and on New Year's Day as well.

Everyone was present. My mom and dad, my sister and brother, sis-in-law and bro-in-law, nephews and niece, a couple of loved ones. It was a laid-back day but super-fun. The kids played video games while the adults just hungout. We had plenty of Hawaiian and Filipino food and ate all afternoon. I ordered:
  • BBQ beef ribs
  • Teriyaki steak
  • Teriyaki chicken
  • Spam musubi
 My sister in law made:
  • Pansit (noodles which are a must for every birthday to signify long life)
  • Bibingka (rice cakes that are traditionally eaten around Christmas time)
My mom and dad fell asleep on the couch until it was time for my dad and Mr Sweetie to blow the birthday cakes. Mr Sweetie did not know that the party was also for him until everyone arrived. He thought that it was just for my dad.

We were all very happy and every tummy was full. Everyone had plenty of food that they took home with them. I was tired from all the festivities that started on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Mr Sweetie's birthday dinner then my dad's hospitalization on the day of his actual birthday.  We are so thankful that my dad was discharged with a clean bill of health. This time with the family was made more special because of that. Knowing that my dad is healthy despite his age, and having my whole family with me on New Year's Day, I cannot ask for anything else.

Thank you, Lord, for the gift of my family.
