Saturday Journal # 2 | Brunch at Pushkins

Saturday, June 3, 2017

Mr Sweetie and I are lazy bums on Saturdays that we have very little brunch date history. We tend to live in our jammies while devouring delicious brekkie that I cook in my kitchen. We cannot dream of spending a more perfect Saturday until we hit the town for date night later in the day.

This Saturday was different, though. Mr Sweetie took me on a staycation in Sacramento where we enjoyed drinks and appetizers at a sports bar, saw Anuhea at Harlow's and stayed at the historic Citizen Hotel. I truly  had a great evening while slowly swaying to Hawaiian rock while cuddling with Mr Sweetie and enjoying margarita until almost 1 am.

The next morning we discovered Pushkin for brunch. We had to change our plan of spending the day in Old Sacramento when we found out that Sacramento Music Fest was being held that weekend. Parking was cray and we were not feeling it that we decided to hunt for a breakfast spot instead. Pushkin was a random find. I chose it because I like the name -- Pushkin (Russian poet who coined "Little Dove" as a term of endearment).

Pushkin was a delight! Everything was delicious! I could not resist getting a Shashuka (my first time!) and waffle with strawberries and butter.  Mr Sweetie raved about his Crispy Chicken sandwich. I enjoyed a cup of Four Barrel Coffee while he had two glasses of fresh grapefruit juice.

Ambiance was total brunch feels. The modern industrialized open kitchen also showcased freshly baked goods. Tables were mostly communal. Mr Sweetie and I ate al fresco which under the bright, hot Sacramento sun was not the best decision but looking back -- sunny Saturday "morning" was awesome!

I would love to do it all over again next time we go back to Sac. (I heard that the holiday season in Old Sacramento is very festive. I am so looking forward to it!) Except next time we will definitely eat indoors.  LOVE!
