Emeryville | Date Night: Peruvian Street Food

Thursday, July 20, 2017

One of the great things that I love about the Bay Area is being able to enjoy delicious food from all over the world without having to get on the plane.  It makes date night adventures more fun. Mr Sweetie and I go to new eateries every Saturday for date night.  We have two requirements for our date nights: 1) It should be at a new place that we have not been to yet, and  2) that we have to eat out every Saturday even if it is just at a little taqueria.

Our pick for this Saturdate was Paradita Eatery. It is touted as Peruvian Street Food and is a casual eatery located inside The Public Market in Emeryville, CA (about 45 minutes from San Francisco and about 15 minutes from Oakland/Berkeley).  The Public Market has been around forever and I have not been to in years. We were delighted to find that it has been “rehabbed” with fresh new restaurants and new modern-industrial look.
The Public Market's atmosphere is casual and that of a food court but the eateries are artisanal and non-corporate.  You order and pick up your food at the counter. Even the service at Paradito was more on the stale side – neither unfriendly but not welcoming either.

Mr Sweetie and I shared a Platanos Fritto $4.25 (Fried plantains with tamarindo sauce.) I had the Lomito al Jugo $13.50  (Stir-fried beef tenderloin with tomatoes, onions, cilantro & soy sauce, topped with French fries.) Mr Sweetie had the Paradita Ribs $ 12.75  (Inca Kola BBQ pork spare ribs, Peruvian rice & beans, salsa criolla)

The Verdict?  Mr Sweetie really liked his BBQ ribs while I was not too crazy with my stir-fried beef. I honestly can cook better stir-fry than what I had. The beef was not very flavorful. The fries and fried plantains were good, though. Paradita is also on the pricey side for the portions. Our tab including a soda and tip was $45. The funny part was Mr Sweetie was still hungry that we went to another eatery inside the market where he bought another sandwich! LOL! I was just okay with mine. I could have eaten more but it was fine.
The Market is a fun place for casual date night. We had fun exploring the market and drooling over food. We will definitely check out the other places next time!
