Oakland | Sunday Family Dinner at Ding Japanese Restaurant

Wednesday, February 21, 2018

My dad has been craving sashimi since they arrived few weeks ago in the US to visit us from Manila. I invited my entire family to come over to where I live so I could treat them to dinner, and indulge my dad's cravings.

I chose Ding Japanese Restaurant because Mr Sweetie and I had dinner here during one of our Saturday date nights. We liked the quality of the food, the low-key yet classy ambiance and best of all, parking was possible to find in this very crowded neighborhood.

It turned out to be an evening that I will treasure as every single member of my family was there. My mom and dad, my sister and brother, sis-in-law and bro-in law, as well as my nephews and niece. Even Mr Sweetie was able to join us although few minutes late from watching football with his friends.

It was a tangle of limbs as everyone was reaching for their dishes -- tempura, sushi rolls, ramen, udon, teriyaki bento boxes. I sat right next to my dad and made sure that he got his sashimi which he enjoyed.

Another plus was we were able to celebrate my sister-in-law's birthday which was the day before. She and my sister ordered a sake shot each for her birthday drink. I heard that she wanted to blow a birthday candle but she did not get to yesterday. I asked our server to put a candle on the dessert we ordered which was fried banana and ice cream.

The final check matched the appetites of my nephews who are growing boys with bottomless appetites. The memories, though, are priceless and something that I will treasure in the many years to come.

Ding is a neighborhood restaurant with good food and very attentive service. The fish was fresh and our servers were friendly. I appreciated that they were very patient with my old dad with his questions in difficult to understand accent. We were also given complimentary sake for the birthday girl and extra desserts. We appreciated all these nice gestures.
